Gearing In Legion for PvP

Every time you join any type of Instanced PvP a template is loaded for your character. This template has preset levels of Agility, Mastery, Critical Strike, Versatility, Haste, and any modified damage tables for specific abilities. You can amplify your stats on the template two different ways; First any Artifact Traits that you’ve learned will carry over so if your ability would do 100 damage on the template but you’ve learned a trait increasing that skills damage by 10% then you’ll do 110 damage like you normally would, The second way to improve your stats is through your Average Item Level.

Your Average Item Level on the template begins at 840 so if you just hit 110 and your item level is below that you’ll get bumped up so you can start enjoying PvP as soon as you want to. As you win games and collect strongboxes that will sometimes contain gear to increase your power out in the world, that Average Item Level will also translate to power on the template. For every 10 item levels above the base 840 you’ll get an additional 1% stats added to your character.

All gear procs / enchants / effects are disabled in instanced PvP

Selecting a Race

Below you’ll find the best races for Windwalker Monks in PvP spotlight and additional race comments at the bottom.

Every Man for Himself: Removes all movement impairing effects and all effects which cause loss of control of your character. This effect shares a cooldown with other similar effects.
The Human Spirit: Versatility increased by 100 (scales with level).
With stuns playing such a large role in the PvP Meta game it’s not surprising that Human is the strongest race for Alliance. Having a way to get out of any major crowd control on an offensive push or defensive retreat makes it near impossible for a team to lock you down for very long. Human Monks also have access to Adaptation as a viable trinket option without the drawbacks of other races due to having a secondary way to remove stuns through their racial.
Arcane Torrent: Silence all enemies within 8 yards for 2 sec and restores 3% of your Mana, 15 energy, 15 rage, 15 focus, 1 Holy Power, 1 Chi, or 20 runic power. Non-player victim spellcasting is also interrupted for 3 sec.
Arcane Acuity: Increases critical strike chance by 1%.
Arcane Resistance: Reduces Arcane damage taken by 1%.
Arcane Torrent is a powerhouse being an AoE silence that also generates Chi. Having an Interrupt, two stuns, paralysis, an additional silence in the form of a racial, as well as your team having there own bonus’s make Blood Elves the most offensively capable race available for a Windwalker.
Blood Fury: Increases melee and ranged attack power for 15 seconds.
Hardiness: Duration of Stun effects reduced by an additional 10%.
Orc’s set the bar very high when it comes to Offensive/Defensive bonus’s having an offensive racial cooldown puts Orcs well above other races in terms of combat strength and Hardiness stacking with Relentless in the current Meta is a game changer.


Quaking Palm: Strikes the target with lightning speed, incapacitating them for 4 sec, and turns off your attack.

Pandaren bring an extra cc to PvP but being on a long cooldown and sharing a Diminishing Return Category with other, stronger, abilities causes Quaking Palm to be underutilized.


Arcane Resistance: Reduces Arcane damage taken by 1%.
Escape Artist: Escape the effects of any immobilization or movement speed reduction effect.
Expansive Mind: Maximum resource increased by 5%.
Nimble Fingers: Haste increased by 1%.

Escape Artist is an incredible racial under specific situations but is weaker in comparison to the Human Racial. Expansive Mind and Nimble Fingers are very minor bonus’s.


Cannibalize: When activated, regenerates 7% of total health and mana every 2 sec for 10 sec. Only works on Humanoid or Undead corpses within 5 yds. Any movement, action, or damage taken while Cannibalizing will cancel the effect.
Shadow Resistance: Reduces Shadow damage taken by 1%.
Touch of the Grave: Your attacks and damaging spells have a chance to drain the target, dealing 1932 to 2244 Shadow damage and healing you for the same amount.
Will of the Forsaken: Removes any Charm, Fear and Sleep effect. This effect shares a 30 sec cooldown with other similar effects.

Much like their fleshy counterpart , the Humans, Undead have their own racial trinket Will of the Forsaken with the same set of restrictions only much less valuable. 


Regeneration: Health regeneration rate increased by 10%. 10% of total Health regeneration may continue during combat.
Berserking: Increases your haste by 15% for 10 sec.
Da Voodoo Shuffle: Reduces the duration of all movement impairing effects by 15%. Trolls be flippin’ out mon!

Trolls win in style but their racial traits dont benefit us much.


Brawn: Critical strike bonus damage and healing increased by 2%.
Endurance: Increases your Stamina by 197 (scales with level).
Nature Resistance: Reduces Nature damage taken by 1%.
War Stomp: Stuns up to 5 enemies within 8 yds for 2 sec.

Tauren’s are given a slightly higher health pool and harder hitting critical strikes but the majority of our self healing can not crit and War Stomp shares a DR with both Fist of Fury and Leg Sweep making it largely ignored.

Night Elf

Nature Resistance: Reduces Nature damage taken by 1%
Quickness: Increases your chance to dodge melee and ranged attacks by 2%, and your movement speed by 2%.
Shadowmeld: Activate to slip into the shadows, reducing the chance for enemies to detect your presence. Lasts until cancelled or upon moving. Any threat is restored versus enemies still in combat upon cancellation of this effect.
Touch of Elune: Increases your Haste by 1% during the night.Increases your Critical Strike by 1% during the day.

Shadowmeld is a very good Racial allowing you to basically immune any crowd control cast at you by activating it moments before it’d successfully be cast or land but other than that the benefits of being a Night Elf are minor.



Frost Resistance: Reduces Frost damage taken by 1%.
Might of the Mountain: Critical strike bonus damage and healing increased by 2%.
Stoneform: Removes all poison, disease, curse, magic, and bleed effects and reduces all physical damage taken by 10% for 8 sec.

Stoneform is an amazing defensive talent and with Might of the Mountain increasing your critical strike damage making Dwarves a very threatening race in there own right.


Gift of the Naaru: Heals the target for 20% of the caster’s total health over 5 sec.
Heroic Presence: Increases your Strength, Agility, and Intellect by 65 (scales with level).
Shadow Resistance: Reduces Shadow damage taken by 1%.

Small Survivability Racial and slightly higher main stat make Draenei strong but not as strong as some other races.
