Windwalker Castle Nathria Guide
Welcome to the Windwalker Castle Nathria Guide for Shadowlands! On this page, you will find an overview of how to DPS Castle Nathria as as a Windwalker, as well as a breakdown of each of the Castle Nathria raid bosses.
It is important to note that these guides are meant to be an entry into mid-higher level raiders from a Windwalker-only perspective. They are by no means a comprehensive guide of every mechanic or ability that you will find in a boss encounter, but instead offer an overview of need-to-know information for a Windwalker wanting to improve their play. For a basic, beginner-friendly raid guide, please check out the Castle Nathria Overview on Wowhead.com.
If you have any further questions about the guides or suggestions on how to improve them, you can always contact us in the Windwalker Monk section of the Peak of Serenity Discord server!
What’s New in Shadowlands
Returning and Altered abilities
-
Expel Harm – Returns as a usable spell. It doesn’t do a ton of healing, nor a ton of damage. You press it when you need a small heal but don’t want to stop to cast. We’ll look to use this on cooldown since it generates 1 Chi for 15 energy.
-
Invoke Xuen, the White Tiger – Now Windwalker’s primary DPS cooldown with
Storm, Earth, and Fire. This should be more impactful as he generates the “Gale Burst” 3x during his duration and its currently an AOE around him rather than a single target.
-
Fortifying Brew – Moved from a PvP Talent to a baseline ability. Although it’s nice to have another defensive, it does return the (in my opinion) unhealthy playstyle of using
Fortifying Brew before
Touch of Karma for more DPS.
Talent Changes
-
Dance of Chi-Ji – Becomes a talent that you use for AOE situations.
AoE Target Caps
In Shadowlands, Blizzard is instituting caps on AoE abilities in order to stem the tide of massive AoE pulling as a viable strategy in content like Mythic Plus.
-
Fists of Fury – Capped at 6 targets. It still deals 100% damage to your primary target and 50% to each of (now) 5 other targets.
-
Spinning Crane Kick – Capped at 6 targets. In addition to this cap, Mark of the Crane is now capped at 6 targets.
-
Whirling Dragon Punch – Currently uncapped.
-
Chi Burst – Current uncapped.
None of these caps has any functional effect on how or when we use these abilities.
Boss Tips
Recommendations
- Legendary – Invoker’s Delight
- Primary Potency Conduit – Coordinated Offensive
- Talents –
- Chi Wave
- Good Karma
- Dampen Harm since most of the damage is physical
- Dance of Chi-Ji due to downtime and frequent need to run away
- Whirling Dragon Punch
Tips
- Pure Single target fight
- Keep a Transcendence near the boss in case you need to run out and teleport back.
- (MYTHIC)
Maximizing Logs
(Some of these suggestions may be at the expense of mechanics, so only do them when the fight is on farm)
- There isn’t anything special that you can do to increase your damage.
