Advanced: PvE Talents

Welcome to PeakofSerenity’s Windwalker Monk PvE Talents Guide. This guide is designed to be a more in-depth look at the talent recommendations from the main PvE guide. Navigate quickly to the section you need using the sidebar on the right.

This guide has been updated for Patch 9.2 and is regularly updated when discussion, theorycrafting, or testing yields new information.

Level 15

  •  Eye of the Tiger (Passive) – Applies a debuff to the target that damages the enemy and heals the caster over 8s. Used if you can’t be asked to add another button to your action bars.
  •  Chi Wave (Instant, 15s cooldown) – Bounces a wave of Chi alternating between an enemy and friendly, including the caster, up to 7 bounces.
  •  Chi Burst (1s cast, 30s cooldown) – Casts a ball of Chi that damages enemies and heals allies in a 40y line. Provides 1 Chi per target hit, up to a maximum of 2 Chi.

Recommendation: The difference in this tier is minimal; Chi Burst should be used in basically all situations where you can hit more than one target or are playing Night Fae. Chi Wave can be used in single target or when questing to quickly tag targets while on the move. Eye of the Tiger can be used when you feel you can’t use the other two reliably in single target.

Level 25

  •  Celerity (Passive) – Reduces  Roll cooldown by 5s and increases its charges from 2 to 3.
  •  Chi Torpedo (Passive) – Turns  Roll into a torpedo, travelling slightly farther, also gains a buff that increases movement speed by 30% for 10s, stacking up to two times.
  •  Tiger’s Lust (Instant, 30s cooldown) – Increases the target’s movement speed by 70% for 6s, removing all roots and snares.

Recommendation Chi Torpedo is good for prolonged movement, such as kiting.  Celerity works for short bursts of movement.  Tiger’s Lust will be used in most situations because it is not linked to other skills like  Roll.

Level 30

  •  Ascension (Passive) – Increases energy regeneration by 10%, maximum Chi from 5 to 6, and maximum energy by 20.
  •  Energizing Elixir (Instant, 1 min cooldown.) – Fills energy and provides 2 Chi instantly..
  •  Fist of the White Tiger (Instant, 40 energy cost, 30s cooldown) – Deals damage to the target and generates 3 Chi.

Recommendation: The difference in this tier is minimal; Fist of the White Tiger as the default for single target, Ascension as the default for multi-target. But if you have a preference either way feel free to take that one.  Energizing Elixir is generally not recommended due to it’s difficulty to get full value out of it.

Level 35

Recommendation: Good Karma should be used by default unless you need the specific functionality of the other two. Do not underestimate the strength of  Ring of Peace and its abilities on many many fights.

Level 40

  •  Inner Strength (Passive) – Provides a stacking buff for 5s per chi spent, reducing damage taken by 2% per stack, up to 5 stacks.
  •  Diffuse Magic (Instant, 90s cooldown) – Reduces incoming magic damage by 60% for 6 seconds and removes harmful magic effects.
  •  Dampen Harm (Instant, 120s cooldown) – Reduces all damage you take by 20% to 50% for 10 sec, with larger attacks being reduced by more.

Recommendation Dampen Harm for large physical damage,  Diffuse Magic for large magic damage,  Inner Strength for small sustained damage where the other two wouldn’t be as useful.

Level 45

  •  Hit Combo (Stacking Passive) – Adds a stacking buff that increases damage by 1% for every ability that is not a repeat of the previous ability. Stacks up to 6 times.
  •  Rushing Jade Wind (Instant, 6s cooldown) – Damage all enemies in 8 yards around the caster.
  • Dance of Chi-Ji (Passive Proc, 2ppm Hasted) – Chi spenders have a chance to make your next Spinning Crane Kick free to cast and deal an additional 200% damage.

Recommendation: Hit Combo for single target, Dance of Chi-Ji for multi-target or fights where keeping Hit Combo is difficult or annoying

Level 50

Recommendation: Whirling Dragon Punch provides significant flexibility over Serenity, making it the default choice for all situations.
